Holly's Story - A Senior-to-Senior Holiday Match
Poodle Rescue of Vermont has a heartwarming holiday story about two seniors who have found each other in time for the holidays.
This story starts in Danbury CT where animal control found a tiny 6lb toy poodle wandering the streets. The ACO brought her to the shelter where Holly did not fair so well. The Shelter moved Holly to a quieter more comfy spot at their Vet's office for boarding. The entire staff at VCA Northside Animal Hospital fell in love with Holly and her sweet nature. The Veterinarian determined Holly to be approximately 14 yrs old, sweet and gentle and only wanting to be held and sit in someone's lap. With no one stepping forward to claim her, and an uncertain future at the Animal Shelter, the VCA Northside Veterinary team decided that Holly needed a full makeover and were determined to find her a home. They performed a badly needed dental (leaving her with one tooth) updated her vaccinations, tested her for parasites, HW and lyme. Now all they needed was to find Holly a home.
Poodle Rescue of Vermont was contacted via rescue emails learning of Holly's plight. Poodle Rescue of Vermont has been diligently searching for a poodle for 85 yrs young Ann who had lost her dog this past summer and was patiently waiting for her match. Poodle Rescue of Vermont matches senior citizens (who pass the reference checks and home visit) with senior poodles age 9 or older and we waive the adoption fee. When Holly's face and story appeared on the email, we knew Holly and Ann were a match and VCA was called immediately.
Now, how to get Holly from Danbury CT to Burlington VT?
Holly's story was posted by PRVT on the website Pilot's n Paws, seeking a pilot to fly Holly direct from Danbury, CT to BTV. It only took a few hours before Holly had her ride. Pilot Charlie flew Holly to Burlington VT on Thursday, December 13th, 2012 and into the arms of her new forever mom Ann. Local news covered the arrival, you may watch it here.
